Buttons

My mom used to be very frugal. She had a ragbag where she saved all our old clothes that were too torn to mend or that we had outgrown. She used them for rags or had plans for a quilt--although that never got made. She also cut off all the buttons from our clothes and saved them in two jars. One held white and clear buttons, one held colored ones. I guess she was recycling before it became popular. When Mom died, I took the button jars and wondered what to do with them. Then I came up with this. It holds alot of memories. The big beige button belonged on my Mom's coat. I remember her wearing that coat when I was little and always thinking how pretty those buttons were. The purple button with the "diamond " in the center was on my sister's coat. I was soooo jealous of that coat because of those buttons. The yellow one was one of several on a dress my Mom wore in the summer. The pink one was on one of my coats and the clear shiny one was on a top that my Mom made for me for school. There are too many memories and buttons to try to remember them all but I'm glad I have those buttons!

  1. How fun to have all those old buttons--and even better that there are stories to go along with them! That turns them into treasures.
